About Iro

Iro Menegou was born in Thessaloniki in 1990. She has completed her piano studies with E. Alakiozidou, receiving the Piano Diploma with Highest Distinction and 2nd Prize from Athens Conservatory. She has also studied advanced theory obtaining diplomas in Harmony, Counterpoint and Fuge, taking also lessons in composition and double bass.

She has attended piano, chamber music and advanced theory masterclasses with various artists including Fl. Boffard, G. Madge, Th. Wellen, L. Thomou, M. Kollarou, V. Kitsos, P. Adam. She has participated in the Contemporary Music Festival ''Synthermia'' and was an active member in the Contemporary Music Workshop held by IdeeFixe Ensemble. She has also participated in the workshop of Georges Aperghis' "Enumerations" focusing on contemporary music theatre. Since 2019, she is also an active member of the piano masterclass group, "The Piano in the 20th and 21st century", held by Lorenda Ramou. Iro’s latest project, "The Oath of Hippokrates", is a music performance based on the homonymous piece of M. Kagel, including seven new written pieces for her ensemble "Pythia Trio", which consists of 3 pianists on one piano. As a founding member of ''Metheξis Ensemble'' (violin, clarinet, piano, accordion), which focuses on contemporary music, she has collaborated with composers, presenting first performances of their works. She is also a member of the cinematic music ensemble "Bouche Fermee" and of the Music Theatre Ensemble "Enumerations". Iro Menegou has given recitals and participated in music festivals in Greece and has also collaborated with the National Theater of Northern Greece as a musician on stage for the B. Brecht's ''Mutter Courage und Ihre Kinder''. Additionally, Iro has graduated from the Department of Economics of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and she collaborates with the non-profit organisation ''beartive'' in the field of cultural management and artistic productions (Music Diaries, Taratsa International Film Festival, International Summer Music Academy in Greece, Moni Pau Festival and more). In 2018, under the support of Goethe Institut, she designed and organised the international festival "Women Composing in the Balkans" which was nominated for the Innovation Award 2019 (shortlist) in Classical NEXT, while in 2020 she was contracted by the Cyprus Music Information Centre as the Production Manager of the 9th Cyprus New Music Festival, overseeing all artistic and production aspects of the festival. Iro is currently working as a Music Theory teacher at the Municipal Conservatory of Thermi and as a Plano and Music Theory teacher at the Municipal Conservatory of Pylaia-Hortiatis, where she has also been appointed as the Coordinator of International Relations. Iro has been involved in several European and International music networks, while she has been selected from the European Music Council to be part of its fellowship programme for the period 2018-2020.
